Physiology

Subterranean Death Worm Verminatos have a black dorsal coloration while its ventral region is a darker red color. It retains its yellow and black eyespots but they have spikes around the edges of the pattern, like circular saws. Its osmeterium is now an X-shape instead of the usual Y-shape and keeps its red color. It has a pale pink clitellum (a raised band encircling the body of worms and some leeches) around its neck and bulbous tail tip.

Abilities

Subterranean Death Worm Verminatos has a few new tricks up its sleeve. Subterranean Death Worm Verminatos can kill at a distance, either by spraying its acidic fluid at its prey or by means of electric discharge. Subterranean Death Worm Verminatos can launch flames from its tail tip. This is achieved by mixing two chemicals in the tail that combust upon exposure to air. This produces a stream of fire similar to a flamethrower.

Behavior

Subterranean Death Worm Verminatos are truly dangerous monsters. The Hunter's Guild only allow hunters with special permits to hunt them down.

They sometimes hunt and eat live prey; common prey items include Slagtoth, Mosswine, Rhenoplos, and Apceros. However, there are predators that could potentially kill a Verminatos. These include Rathian, Tigrex, Khezu, Sand Barioth, Gore Magala, Deviljho, Rajang, and Elder Dragons. Biological Adaptations

Its uses its beak and jaws to move aside dirt and sand whilst digging. Subterranean Death Worm Verminatos are hermaphrodites—each individual carries both male and female sex organs. Their skeletons are said to be made out of cartilage. Subterranean Death Worm Verminatos are capable of regenerating lost segments.

Notes

  • Subterranean Death Worm Verminatos's ability is inspired by the "AssBlaster", the third stage of Graboids that have the ability to fly via a burst of fire from its tail as seen in Tremors 3. This design is taken from real life bombardier beetles.
  • Subterranean Death Worm Verminatos's electrical attacks come from the belief that the Mongolian death worm could kill prey by electrocuting it from a distance.
  • Its head can be broken twice and its neck, tail, and hind limbs can be broken.
  • Subterranean Death Worm Verminatos's roar requires HG Earplugs to block.
