Robataur are Carapaceons.

Physiology

Robataur have dark gray carapaces with a thick, white shell. This shell is grown by the Robataur. Once it grows into a Syndicate Robataur (assuming it lives long enough), it will eventually shed the shell and rely on its hardened exoskeleton for protection. They have large and thick claws for their size, which only grows larger as the Robataur itself grows bigger.

Ecology

Information

Robataur
no icon Small Carapaceons that have a tendency to steal shiny objects from people. Should these little bandits live long enough, they'll grow into a Syndicate Robataur.

Taxonomy

  • Order: Decapoda
  • Infraorder: Anomura
  • Superfamily: Robber Crab
  • Family: Robataur

Robataurs are Carapaceons. They are the juvenile form of Syndicate Robataur.

Habitat Range

As they are purely terrestrial, they avoid areas with large bodies of water. As such, they are known to inhabit areas such as the Ancestral Steppe, Ancient Forest, Coral Highlands, Jurassic Frontier, and Verdant Hills.

Ecological Niche

Although mostly scavengers, Robataurs are omnivores, and are not too hard to please in terms of food. Their diet includes carrion, vegetation, smaller organisms, etc. They are known to fall prey to larger creatures, however.

Biological Adaptations

They have a white shell, similar to Hermitaurs, which offer minor protection or for hiding from predators. As for tools, they use their large claws to hold onto food and other objects, as well as ripping flesh and smashing clams, oysters and coconuts open.

Behavior

When left alone, these omnivorous Carapaceons are often seen foraging for food. They are normally scavengers, and are not too hard to please when it comes to valid food sources, such as plant matter, carrion, small organisms, etc. They will even use their large claws to smash tough nuts and coconuts open, or rip flesh apart. They have a penchant for stealing shiny objects from people, especially when the said owners of the objects in question are not paying attention. They will only rarely attack a person to steal a shiny object they are interested in.

Notes

  • Using a Sonic Bomb will stun a Robataur before they snap out of it and burrow underground to flee the area.
  • Like Melynx, if they manage to hit a hunter, they will steal a random item. But unlike Melynx, they will try to steal Raw Meat based items as a priority. This can be used against them if the hunter holds Poisoned, Tainted and/or Drugged meat, as the effects of those meats will be placed on the Robataur that eats it.
  • Inspired by the Coconut Crab, also known by it's alternate name, the Robber Crab.
