Kabushi (カブシ, Kabushi) is a Neopteron.
Kabushi is a beetle-like Neopteron with an orange-and-brown carapace and wings. Kabushi's forelimbs terminate with two sharp, drill-like appendages, as does its horn. Its compound eyes shine a golden yellow with two antennae that droop down. In its mandibles are many long, sharp teeth arranged horizontally.
Kabushi's horn and forelimbs end in high-speed drills, which allow it to burrow underground or simply gore victims. It can spit "napalm bombs" from their mandibles, which explode upon impact. Finally, it can generate an immense amount of electricity, which is then shot from its horn in the form of an electric beam.
Kabushi are simple-minded creatures that rely entirely on their instincts.
Kabushi can be found a wide range of temperate, tropical, and subtropical habitats such as the Ancestral Steppe, Deserted Island, Everwood, Flooded Forest, Great Forest, Heaven's Mount, Jungle, Misty Peaks, Primal Forest, Sunken Hollow, and the Swamp.
Kabushi are unusual Neopteron with horns and forelimbs that end in drill-like structures that enable them to burrow under the earth at high speeds. They can also shoot lightning bolts from their horn and spit an explosive napalm-like material. Not only can they dig but they can also fly and swim remarkably fast.
- Order: Coleoptera
- Suborder: Polyphaga
- Family: Kabu
Kabushi is a Neopteron with no known relatives, though it is very distantly related to Seltas and Seltas Queen as all three share the same Order.
The known habitats of Kabushi are the Ancestral Steppe, Deserted Island, Everwood, Flooded Forest, Great Forest, Heaven's Mount, Jungle, Misty Peaks, Primal Forest, Sunken Hollow, and the Swamp.
Kabushi are moderately high in the food chain, thanks to their unique abilities. Kabushi commonly feeds on Kelbi, Altaroth, Gargwa, Konchu, Aptonoth, and Bnahabra. They can also prey on lesser predators such as Great Jaggi, Gendrome, and Seltas. Kabushi occasionally scavenge and eat carrion. Their competition includes Nerscylla, Tetsucabra, Rathian, Rathalos, Seregios, Deviljho, Zinogre, Gore Magala, Brachydios, Rajang, and Elder Dragons. Yanmaguirus is an especially big threat as the two Neopterons are often seen fighting, indicating a sort of rivalry between the two.
Kabushi has many unusual adaptations that allow it to defend itself against predators. Located on the horn and forelimbs are "drills" that are used to burrow underground where the creature hides and rests in underground dens. The drills are also sharp enough to gore prey and predators alike. Aside from digging, Kabushi are also adept fliers and swimmers. Kabushi can produces globules of explosive fluid similar to napalm in nature. This fluid behaves like a Brachydios's slime mold and eventually detonates once it comes into contact with an object, usually a Hunter. A Kabushi's most dangerous ability is its electric beam shot from its horn. At first, scientists were baffled at how Kabushi could generate electricity as they lack an electrical organ other electric-wielding monsters such as Khezu and Rajang possess. It was recently disocvered that Kabushi use their horns as lighting rods to attract lightning during storms and allow themselves to be struck by lightning. They then store the electricity in a special organ to use for later.
Kabushi aren't exactly what one would call intelligent. This is proven by the fact that the creature is easily manipulated by external stimuli. For example, hunters have reported that when a sonic bomb is thrown, Kabushi will attack the area where it went off. They also appear to lack tactics and just charge headfirst against enemies, rarely utilizing their napalm spit or their electric blasts. They are also very temperamental, as they become enraged easily and have Diablos-level tempers. Despite all this, Kabushi are still powerful monsters who rely entirely on instincts.
- The design motif for Kabushi was the rhinoceros beetle, speciifcally the Japanese rhinoceros beetle, or kabutomushi (カブトムシ), which is also the origin of the its name. It is also partially inspired by the kaiju Megalon from Godzilla who only appeared in one film, Godzilla vs. Megalon.
- Kabushi's forelimbs and horn can be broken.
- When low on stamina, Kabushi will be unable to spit its napalm bombs and shoot its lightining beam. It will also be unable to fly.
- It will feed from a carcass or a bone pile to recover stamina.
- Kabushi's roar requires Earplugs to block.
