Gnathalos (グナスロス, Gunasurosu) is a Flying Wyvern.
Gnathalos is a quadrupedal Flying Wyvern with metallic gray scales on its body. Its huge mouth resembles a bear trap and has no discernible teeth; instead, small, sky blue, fang-like protrusions sprout from its jaws. It has two forward-facing horns on its head, one above each eye, and a third, larger horn on its snout. A ring of spikes surrounds the tip of its tail. Its horns, limbs, and tail are adorned with black and sky blue bands. Its eyes are black with yellow pupils.
Gnathalos is known for its large jaws that are capable of opening 180 degrees. These bites are powerful enough to either kill or maim the prey, giving the Wyvern its title. When it bites it is capable of producing a loud snapping sound followed by a powerful shock wave. The resulting shock wave can be enough to stun or kill the prey should it avoid being bitten. Its jaws also permit slow and fine movements for other tasks.
Gnathalos is actually rather docile and can be seen resting most of the time.
Gnathalos is found in the Ancestral Steppe, Arctic Ridge, Everwood, Frozen Seaway, Heaven's Mount, Misty Peaks, Tundra, Volcanic Hollow, Volcano.
Wyverns that possess massive jaws with an equally massive bite force. Gnathalos's powerful, well-developed jaws are capable of crushing anything. Once it bites down, it won't let go until it loses its fangs. New fangs quickly grow into place.

Gnathalos is a quadrupedal Flying Wyvern that is related to other wyverns such as Nargacuga and Barioth.
Gnathalos is a very adaptable species and can thrive in various different environments. Its known habitats in the Old World include the Ancestral Steppe, Everwood, Heaven's Mount, and the Volcanic Hollow. New Wold habitats include the Misty Peaks and Tundra.
Gnathalos is a prime example of an apex predator. It feeds on various herbivores and weaker predators like Iodrome, Great Baggi, Lagombi, and Yian Kut-ku. However it competes with other large predators like Rathalos, Rathian, Tigrex, Nargacuga, Barioth, Gigginox, Khezu, Raizekusu, Zinogre, Brachydios, Dinovaldo, Deviljho, Rajang, Teostra, Kushala Daora, and Chameleos. Monsters like Gravios, Uragaan, and Duramboros don't serve the same role as Gnathalos but could injure and potentially kill the wyvern.
Gnathalos is known for its large jaws that are capable of opening 180 degrees. These jaws are locked in place by an internal mechanism, and can snap shut on prey or objects, trapping whatever it bit within its fangs. These bites are powerful enough to either kill or maim the prey, giving the Wyvern its title. capable of producing a loud snapping sound followed by a powerful shock wave. The resulting shock wave can be enough to stun or kill the prey should it avoid being bitten. Gnathalos can simply lock and snap its jaws again if one bite is not enough, or to cut off chunks of food from larger prey items. Its jaws also permit slow and fine movements for other tasks. Gnathalos have excellent eyesight and can see prey and other predators from miles away. However, they are nearsighted and have trouble seeing things up close.
Gnathalos is actually rather docile and can be seen resting most of the time. When it is lounging it is saving energy to be able to strike back. It can exert a lot of power by releasing built up energy all at once by biting down. It is only active when hunting or being fought by Hunters. Then it will viciously fight with its jaws.
- Gnathalos's name comes from a potential name candidate for Zamtrios, Gnathalos. It most likely comes from the Greek word γνάθος (gnathos) "jaw".
- Its concept comes from trap jaw ants while its jaws are designed after traditional bear traps. The effect of its bites are based off the snapping shrimp.
- Its head can be broken twice and the tail can be severed.
- Gnathalos's roar requires HG Earplugs to block.
