The following Status Effects are officially used in this Wiki. Please don't add Status Effects you made in your own volition. Also some information on certain fanon Status Effects are missing and the creator of these ones are wanted to fill in the missing information. NOTE: All of this has been data gathered from the Main Monster Hunter Wikia and is given full credits.

We currently do not accept any new Fanon status effects. Status Burst contests and suggesting new ailment/element ideas will return on further notice and when the more obscure effects are utilised more.

Official Main Series Status Effects

width="100%"
Poison
Created by Capcom
Status Poison A common status effect that causes a gradual loss of health over a period of time. Once the Poison has worn off, the red portion of the health bar will recover slowly. Depending on the monster and the rank of the quest, the Poison can drain the health bar at a faster rate than normal. The duration of Poison can be increased, decreased, or negated altogether with an appropriate skill. Poison is indicated visually by purple bubbles emitted by the victim.
Antidote, Bitterbug (50%), Antidote Herbs (50%), Herbal Medicine, wait it out

Noxious Poison 猛毒/Venom
Created by Capcom
Status Venom A stronger version of Poison that reduces health at a faster rate.
Antidote, Bitterbug (50%), Antidote Herbs (50%), Herbal Medicine, wait it out

Deadly Poison 劇毒

Status Deadly Poison An even stronger version of Poison that reduces health at a extremely faster rate over a short period of time.
Antidote, Bitterbug (50%), Antidote Herbs (50%), Herbal Medicine, wait it out

Paralysis 麻痺
Created by Capcom
Status Paralysis A dreaded status effect that completely immobilizes for a certain period of time, leaving the victim helpless. Upon being Paralyzed, the Hunter will fall down on their face (or remain motionless in an arched position underwater) and yellow sparks of lightning will be seen passing through their body. The duration of Paralysis can be increased, decreased, or negated altogether with an appropriate skill. There is nothing a Hunter can do but to wait for the Paralysis to wear off or for certain attacks to send them flying. This status effect had been previously known as "Stun" in the early Monster Hunter games, but has recently been referred to as "Paralysis" to better differentiate it from the ailment caused by Flash Bombs and Impact-type attacks.
Attack that causes knockback, wait it out

Sleep 睡眠
Created by Capcom
Status Sleep Some monsters have the potential to put Hunters to Sleep. It is similar to Paralysis in that it leaves the Hunter unable to do anything. However, damage taken when asleep is greatly increased and will end the status after one hit. The duration of Sleep can be increased, decreased, or negated altogether with an appropriate skill. One does not immediately fall asleep when Sleep is inflicted. Instead, the Hunter will become drowsy allowing an Energy Drink to be used if the player is fast enough, negating the effect before falling asleep. Any non-Sleep inducing monster attack will wake up the Hunter again, and also those from fellow Hunters or Felyne/Shakalaka comrades. Leaving the area also appears to rid the Hunter of the status, but it's uncommon to receive this whilst close enough to an exit.
Get hit once (by monster or comrade), Energy Drink (MH3 and on), wait it out

Stun 気絶
Created by Capcom
Status Stun Occurs when a Hunter receives many attacks in a short period of time. When Stunned/Knocked Out, movement, attacking and items are completely disabled. The visual indication is a ring of yellow stars spinning above the affected target's head. All monsters can inflict Stun by means of repeated physical attacks, but some can inflict it immediately by emitting an extremely bright flash of light, or another special technique. When a monster is inflicted with it by use of a Flash Bomb, it attacks randomly until the effect wears off and if inflicted by repeated Impact-type attacks (such as Hammer or Hunting Horn), the monster is completely immobilized for a short while. If a Flash Bomb is used then the monster is KO'd by an Impact hit, more stars circle around its head than normal but the effect duration is the same. The duration of the stun can be increased, decreased, or negated altogether with an appropriate skill. By rotating the analog stick used for movement in a circular motion and tapping the evasion button, the player can snap out of it on their own.
Repeatedly rotate the left analog stick and tap X (PSP) or A (Wii, Wii U, 3DS), either shake the Wii Remote or Nunchuck rapidly

Felvine Scented マタタビまみれ
Created by Capcom
Status Felvine Scented Makes Felynes and Melynxes in the area to attack those affected. This status effect is shown as pink smoke and can only be inflicted with an exploding Felvine Bomb. Felynes and Melynxes will dance, encircle, and then jump at anything carrying the bomb's scent. Monsters as well as Hunters can be affected. When used on the Felynes or Melynxes themselves, they become intoxicated and unable to move normally. Wears off with time.

Soiled 一部アイテム使用不可

Being Soiled disables the ability to use any consumable items such as Potions, Steaks, Hot/Cool Drinks, etc.
Deodorant, leaving area, waiting it out

Fatigue
Created by Capcom
Status Fatigue An extremely rare status effect where a Hunter's Stamina is dropped to its lowest level and they become unable to use most Stamina restoring items. Fatigue is indicated visually by green clouds rising from the Hunter. In Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, only Chameleos' spit attack can inflict this status. In Monster Hunter 4, the Tetsucabra and Seltas' fluid attacks will momentarily drop current Stamina to zero, but it will restore normally over time.
Energy Drink, Ancient Potion

Tarred 重油
Created by Capcom
Status Tarred The Hunter is immobilized by Tar, similar to Webbed. If the Hunter does not free themselves from the tar, it will explode and damage them.
Cleanser, rotate the analog pad or get hit by a teammate or monster

Frenzy Virus 狂竜ウイルス
Created by Capcom
Status Frenzy Virus The Hunter becomes infected with a virus. It requires time to incubate, represented by a purple bar filling up below the Hunter's on-screen name. If the bar fills completely, the virus negates natural health recovery, meaning that the Hunter takes full damage from attacks without being able to heal back half of it. Additionally, all attacks which would cause the condition will deal extra damage while the virus is active. However, if the Hunter inflicts enough damage on a monster whilst the virus is incubating, they gain a 15% Affinity boost instead, as well as an immunity to infection for a short period of time.

It is of note that a hunter receives damage over time whilst in a "virus pool". This damage can be quite significant, if prolonged.

While incubating, the incubation can be delayed by consuming a Nulberry. The fully incubated virus can only be cured by prolonged exposure to a Portable Steam Bomb or waiting it out.

Muddy 泥まみれ状態
Created by Capcom
Status Mudded A status effect inflicted when mud thrown by a monster covers the Hunter and makes movement more difficult. This disables weapons and most items from being used. Repeatedly spin the analog stick to speed up recovery, or use a Cleanser. The effects are very similar to the 'Snowman' effect.
Cleanser, shake the Wii Remote / rotate the analog stick or get hit by a teammate or monster

Muck

Status Muck A variant of the Muddy status introduced in Monster Hunter: World, which instead of encasing hunters in mud, it traps them in a pile and makes movement next to impossible.
Cleanser, rotate the analog stick or get hit by a teammate or monster

Webbed 糸拘束状態
Created by Capcom
Status Webbed The signature status effect of Nerscylla, Webbed immobilizes the Hunter in a sticky film which prevents movement. Nerscylla mainly uses this opportunity to strike the victim with a sleep-inducing sting or a poisoning bite attack. It is possible to break free relatively easily just by rotating the analog pad.
Cleanser, rotate the analog stick or get hit by a teammate or monster

Life Drain 吸血
Created by Capcom
Status Life Drain A monster bites onto the Hunter and sucks their blood, gradually draining health. Multiple monsters may latch onto the Hunter at once, so they should be shaken off quickly.
Rolling

Snowman 雪だるま
Created by Capcom
Status Snowman Getting hit by an extremely cold attack can inflict Snowman. It's usually caused by a very cold breath attack that forms a layer of ice over the Hunter's body, preventing use of any items (except a Thawing Agent or Cleanser) and attacks. Snowman can also be healed with being attacked or falling from a great height. Whilst in the Snowman status, it is possible to sprint without Stamina loss but movement speed is decreased slightly. In MH4U, sprinting DOES use stamina, but at a greatly reduced rate.
Thawing Agent (MHFU), Cleanser, shake the Wii Remote / rotate the analog stick or get physically hit by a teammate or monster

Frostbind
Created by Capcom
Status Frostbind The hunters footing is bound in a player of ice, which will trap them to that spot and make movement next to impossible. Similar to the Muck status in functionality.
Fire Pods or get physically hit by a teammate or monster

Blastblight/ Slimeblight 爆破やられ
Created by Capcom
Status Blastblight Known as Slimeblight in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and Blastblight in Monster Hunter 4 onwards, this ailment will cover the Hunter in slime or explosive powder. Movement isn't hindered, but Hunters affected by it suffer a damaging explosion if struck by a monster, or if the status isn't rid of quickly by rolling a few times. Even blocked attacks can inflict this status. When affected, all blocking attempts will fail so it is advised to pay attention to the status icons next to the Hunter's name.

When used against monsters, different colored effects will signify how many more hits are needed to trigger an explosion. When enough status is applied, an explosion occurs, dealing a fixed amount of damage on whatever part the triggering hit struck. The buildup then resets and the monster's tolerance increases like with the main status effects, making the next explosion a bit more difficult to trigger. Of note is that this effect is not affected by Status Attack Up, but instead the Bombardier armor skill, which makes applying the status faster but does not directly increase damage. Despite this, Blastblight is still a status, and is in turn affected by the CritStatus armor skill. The Bombardier armor skill grants a 1.2 multiplier to the status' potency. This isn't seen on the weapon's profile itself, but can be seen on the Status screen under the Hunter's raw Attack power. Obtaining the Felyne Pyro skill provides a 1.1 multiplier. The effects of Bombardier and Felyne Pyro can stack.

This effect may be combined with special bubbles, a red kind which increases the attack of a hunter as well as a green one which has the effect of a potion or first aid med.

Wait for it to wear off, Green Herb, Mixed Herb (G+R).

Bloodblight

Same as Webbed, Cleanser, rotate the analog stick or get hit by a teammate or monster

Leg Bind
Created by FireBall13
Status Leg Bind It slows the hunter down a lot, makes them fall into monster made traps easier, such as Nerscylla's webs. It also makes status effects that trap the hunter be inflicted easier as the Hunter trips more often when trying to move. The hunter also cannot dodge when their weapon is unsheathed. When they try to dodge when sheathed, they will roll and stumble a bit and use up more stamina, but it isn't much of a difference. If the hunter dodges and the stamina drops to 0, they will stumble and then trip. But will get up soon after. The stamina is not used if under the effects of a Dash Juice or Mega Dash Juice. Or if it's like World, the stamina usage is lessened a lot. The hunter still moves slower than usual when crouching, but they can dodge like normal. When underwater, Leg Bind makes swimming somewhat harder thus making movement underwater harder. However the hunter can dodge when unsheathed. The Hunter can still use their weapon to combat despite all of this. Regardless if they are on land or underwater.

Encased
Created by WhiteoutTM
Status Severe Encased Hunters affected by this status become encased in rock. There are two possible effects of this status. Contrary to the milder version, hunters cannot do anything while inflicted. Until they break out of the status, they are immobilised in place.

Technique Broken
Created by Chaoarren

If the hunter has no access to Hunter Arts/Styles, example being a FanGame without them, then Technique Broken will instead reduce the movesets of all weapon types that allow their signature and strongest attacks.

Necrosis
Created by Jaggid

Armour not made from monster parts decrease the power of Necrosis. If used with different elements it causes chemical reactions.
  • Fire: If left too long and depending on the amount of rot based attacks they were hit by, will cause the hunter to explode as if they were hit by Blastblight and take damage equal to the amount of Necrosis attacks used.
  • Water: The hunter will leave behind a trail of stagnant looking water that inflicts rot overtime and causes Waterblight.
  • Thunder: the Necrosis will not decrease the hunters health but for 7 seconds the hunter will have 0 defence, after this time the hunters weapons get a 75% boost in affinity for 7 seconds.
  • Ice: It will have the same effect as Frostbite.
  • Dragon: Instead of the hunters defences and resistances being drained, their sharpness, element/ailment and attack values decrease
  • Earth: The Effects of Necrosis will become nullified
  • Wind: An aura of rot surrounds the hunter and inflicts Necrosis quickly to any hunter or Palico that goes near it.
  • Nature: The hunters health will drain at a faster pace and they will be stuck in place by the vines, but it will also be easier to break out of as the vines are in a stage of decomposition.
  • Aether: Decreases the hunters resistance to the Aether Element and whatever type of element/ailment weapon they are holding by 25% for every rot based attack.
  • Void: TBA

Blood Poisoning
Created by Chaoarren and TheBrilliantLance

Any health lost by this status cannot be recovered unless its cured. Should hunters be hit by another Poison attack or let it stay active too long, the poison becomes more lethal. The more severe it becomes, the sides of the screen start to be covered with a purplish red liquid effect and the hunter's movement slows down.

The poisoning also has additional effects depending on the area. If in a jungle or swamp, the poison will get worse faster. If in a hot area, the screen effect will be worse and Fire resistances gradually decrease with severity. If in a cold area, movement reduction is greater and Ice resistances gradually decrease with severity. If underwater, the oxygen meter depletes faster and any Water attacks increase the ailments severity.'

  • Level 2: Slows movement speed and rapidly drains health in a manner similar to Noxious Poison.
  • Level 3: Inflicts Paralysis and causes hunters to suffer a moderate amount of damage every 3 seconds, which is signified by a faint heartbeat as they convulse.
Nulberry (Level 1-2), get hit by a teammate or Palico (Level 3).

Suppression
Created by Werequaza86
Status Suppression Suppression is an ailment that can be caused by various monsters in various ways. Suppression has two stages. What suppression does in the first stage is cancel out any buffs the hunter currently has, and prevents them from gaining new ones. Ranging from attack and defense buffs to even dash juice effects. Note that if the hunter have increased attack from an armor skill such as Peak Performance, the hunter will still gain that increased attack. However, in the second stage suppression will cancel out all armor skills as well. This includes negative armor skills. Getting hit by an attack that causes it will start out on the first stage. But if the hunter gets hit by another attack that causes it, that's when it will enter the second stage.

If cured before the gauge gets full, aforementioned status effects wane faster as well as the red portion of the health bar heals more quickly. The gauge disappears when the hunter doesn't get hit by attacks with this ailment for a certain period of time. When he/she gets damaged by a pollution attack, the gauge will go up faster and the time is prolonged until the gauge vanishes. When the hunter successfully hits a monster the time until the gauge is gone decreases.
Wait it out without it filling up, Appinds (fruits) lower the gauge

Bloodied
Created by BannedLagiacrus/Chaoarren

Unlike normal Blastblight, when the blight reaches the last two seconds before the explosion, the dust/slime will glow intensely and then detonate. Extreme Blastblight/Slimeblight explodes in an AOE, large enough to damage other hunters in the radius and will always upswing the affected hunter. It also leaves a short lasting trail where the hunter moves, meaning other hunters can get affected by just being close to someone who has it.
