Aligana (アリガナ, Arigana) is a Bird Wyvern.

Aligana is a Bird Wyvern with silver, metal feathers. It has a bare, dark pink head and neck, along with a notched gold beak, a bony rhombus-shaped crest, and yellow eyes. It has black scaly legs ending in feet that have three toes on them, two in front and one in back, with bronze talons on each toe. It sports three long, hooked tail feathers shaped like sickles.

Aligana possesses sharp metallic feathers, similar to Kushala Daora's metal skin, that it can launch at its victims, similar to Seregios being able to shoot its scales. Its sharp beak can stab through the armored hides of prey. Its dung is said to be poisonous, and can inflict both the Poison and Soiled status.

Aligana is a ravenous, opportunistic omnivore that will eat anything and everything. However, they are primarily scavengers and prefer to feed on carrion and bones. They are even known to eat humans when given the chance.

Aligana have been found to live in the Ancestral Steppe, Great Forest, Heaven's Mount, Jungle, Misty Peaks, Sunken Hollow, Jurassic Frontier, and the Ruined Ridge.

They are known for their ability to launch their feathers like daggers at prey. They are notorious scavengers and are capable of eating bones. Aligana dung is highly toxic, making it a difficult task to clean up.

Habitat Range

In the Old World, Aligana inhabit the Ancestral Steppe, Great Forest, Heaven's Mount, Jungle, Marshlands, Misty Peaks, Sunken Hollow, Jurassic Frontier, and the Ruined Ridge.

Ecological Niche

Aligana is a scavenger, feeding mostly on the remains of dead animals. Aside from meat, they also feed on bone marrow. They can swallow whole or bite through brittle bones, and its powerful digestive system quickly dissolves large pieces. Should a bone be too large to swallow, it will hold it in its beak and repeatedly smack it against a rock until it breaks. They do occasionally hunt for live prey, albeit very rarely. As they are mostly scavengers, they rarely come into contact with predators and don't have to worry about wyverns like Rathalos, Rathian, Nargacuga, Tigrex, Khezu, Deviljho, and the likes.

Biological Adaptations

Aligana are covered in sharp, thin, knife-like feathers. These feathers can be flung at prey and can easily cut through soft or exposed flesh. However, they aren't very effective against armored hides. For armored prey, they rely on their sharp beaks that can pierce armored hides and are capable of very accurate jabbing and thrusting attacks. They can extend and retract their necks to deliver their jab attacks; their neck is often pulled in tightly against its body. Its sharp beak is made of a material similar to gold while its talons are similar to bronze. Their dung is highly toxic and are used to mark their territories.

Aligana are significantly aggressive and territorial. They do not tolerate anything encroaching upon their territory, not even others of their own kind. They only allow potential mates to enter their nests.

  • Aligana was originally supposed to be a Seregios Subspecies known as Metallic Seregios. However the concept was changed and became an entirely different monster.
  • Aligana was designed after vultures.
  • Its design motif was the Stymphalian birds from Greek mythology. These man-eating birds had sharp metallic feathers, bronze beaks, and poisonous dung.
  • Aligana's head, wings, feet, and tail feathers can be broken.
