The Akarash is an Fanged Wyvern found in the Crimson Sands.
Description[]
Akarash is a doglike fanged wyvern with a wiry build. It has a drooping nose, squarish ears, and piercing blue eyes. It has a narrow head, long neck, deep chest, and a flexible tail that ends in a fork. Its fur is red while its scales are black.

Akarash are native to the Crimson Sands.
Ecological Niche[]
While easily an apex predator, the Akarash is actually omnivorous and isn’t too picky about what it eats. It will steal kills from other monsters and feed on cacti when times are lean.
Biological Adaptations[]
The Akarash is a natural sprinter. Its slender, streamlined body lends itself to explosive bursts of speed, supported by a robust cardiovascular system. Special paw pads and claws give it extra traction while running, while its tail acts as a rudder to facilitate sharp turns. However, it cannot maintain these breakneck speeds for long before it overheats. Its large ears help dissipate heat, while its reddish coloring provides camouflage on the Crimson Sands. The Akarash does in fact possess a thunder sac, but it is tied to the monster’s adrenal gland, and thus only comes into play when it is sufficiently threatened.
Behavior[]
The Akarash is so territorial that it will not flee from Elder Dragons, even when it is clearly outmatched.

- The monster was inspired by and based on the nameless animal of Set, Egyptian god of the desert, storms, disorder, and violence, and Lord of the Red Land.
- While in development, the monster's name went through several iterations. Its original name was Setheos, which was deemed too obvious a connection to the creature's origin. It was then named Akanos Arashi, which was modified from Japanese for "red storm". Though better, it felt too long a name. Thus came Akarash, a portmanteau of Akanos Arashi.
